Purchasing & Warehouse Manager

Overview of PositionThe Purchasing & Warehouse Manager is responsible for buying the best quality equipment, goods, and services for the company at the most competitive prices. He/She oversees supply chain management, procurement, manages relationships with suppliers, and oversees shipping and delivery. She/He also oversees the warehouse at our Salt Lake City office, including maintaining inventory and managing the warehouse function, and organization.Reporting Structure and Interaction

The Purchasing & Warehouse Manager reports directly to the Lead Systems Engineer and works in close partnership with the Utah and Wyoming Operations Managers and Construction Managers.
He/She works closely with the System Designer, and with Creative Energies Accounting Manager. May occasionally work with Salespeople, Lead Installers, and Install Coordinator as needed.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Solar equipment purchasing as directed by Systems Designer (70% of time)
  • Determines equipment requirements and acquires at best value
  • Negotiates cost and credit terms for needed equipment
  • Forecasts needs for equipment based on company demand
  • Plan, coordinate, and schedule all shipping of purchased products
  • Tracks orders to ensure on-time delivery
  • Reporting all qualifying purchases to purchasing Co-op
  • Sources appropriate rental equipment for project construction
  • Maintains positive vendor relationships
  • Closely monitor vendors and manufacturers to ensure company needs are met
  • Works closely with the accounting department to resolve discrepancies with invoices
  • Evaluates needs for necessary field tool purchases
  • Assess the environmental and social sustainability of our purchasing options
  • Collaborates with sales department to quickly move overstock/dated equipment
Manage the warehouse operations (30% of time)
  • Prepare project packing list for each job and ensure equipment availability
  • Maintain ongoing inventory and inventory documentation
  • Set Min/Max reorder points on frequently used products
  • Create BOL’s for shipping equipment

Job Functions and Contributions

The Purchasing & Warehouse Manager will work to improve cash flow with lean purchasing methods. She/He will work to achieve best costs for purchased goods as well as finding the most sustainably made and transported products. They will partner with the Project Team to manage weekly project schedule. Will accept direction from Lead Systems Designer and Utah Project Manager.

Required Competencies

Fluent with Microsoft Excel

  • Skilled with word processing and web-based applications
  • Clear verbal and written communications
  • Able to operate forklift (training can be provided)
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Strong math skills

Preferred Competencies

  •  Purchasing and warehouse management experience
  • Well versed in solar power equipment choices
  • LEAN Certification
  • Entry-level NABCEP certification
  • Experience or training in accounting

Solar Installer Position

The PV Installer will be responsible for the safe and efficient installation of solar power systems on residences and small commercial buildings in the Salt Lake City area. They will work as a team member on a crew of two to four Installers and Electricians. Responsibilities will include solar array lay-out and installation, roof attachment and equipment loading and transport.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Project installation (85% of Time):

  • Participate as team member on solar installations
  • Seek project details prior to loading and departing for projects
  • Work directly with customers as needed at the time of installation
  • Load and secure project materials and tools in trucks and trailers
  • Understand and follow safety procedures and regulations at all project sites
  • Assure that job sites are clean and orderly
  • Participate in pre-project planning and post-project debriefings
  • Perform service calls, including system diagnosis and repair

Project management and administration (10% of Time):

  • Perform pre-installation site visits
  • Gather and submit permit information
  • Assemble and record project documentation

Other areas of responsibility (5% or time)

  • Shop organization and maintenance projects at Creative Energies’ office locations
  • Minor repairs or maintenance of vehicles
  • Order or purchase equipment, supplies or tools for projects as needed

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Experience in a related field of construction
  • Comfortable and competent to work on roofs, ladders, in attics, and around excavation sites
  • A positive member of a team. Clear communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift 75 pounds. Tolerant of adverse weather and work conditions.
  • Interest and enthusiasm for solar power technology

Our installers work Monday through Thursday on rooftops all across the Wasatch Front. We operate in sun, rain, and snow!

Electrician Position

Licensed Electrician, Journeyman level. This person will be responsible for the electrical portion of our solar installations. Projects to include residential and commercial scale grid-connected photovoltaic systems. Will plan and install conduit and wire for DC and AC wire runs, install and wire inverter systems and energy monitoring equipment. Will work with permitting offices and electrical inspectors and will be responsible for completing electrical work in a Code-compliant manner. May supervise Apprentice Electricians. Will work along with solar installers and system designer as a member of our solar installation team.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Performing and overseeing electrical work (80% of Time):

  • Performing electrical work in the field for solar power systems
  • Oversees other employees who are doing any stage of electrical work
  • Contributes to ensuring Creative Energies is up to date on code issues and compliance
  • Assists system engineer in generating construction plans
  • Coordinates with other electrical contractors

Coordinate permitting and net metering (10%):

  • Pulls permits, schedules and attends inspections, assures that work passes inspection. Interacts with Inspectors to answer questions and help further their understanding of solar electric systems.
  • Ensures that net-metering approval is obtained.

Equipment ordering and planning (5% of Time):

  • Orders electrical equipment on a per-project basis.
  • Maintains standard electrical stock and tools (wire, conduit, fittings, etc.)

Professional Development: (5% of time, approximately 2 weeks/year)

  • Completes training as needed to meet Electrician continuing education requirements.
  • Completes renewable energy specific trainings and workshops.

Supervision Exercised: May supervise up to two Apprentice Electricians.

Qualifications & Skills:

Creative Energies is looking for an energetic and growth-oriented electrician who is willing and able to work in a variety of settings. We are specifically looking for a Journeyman level or at least fourth-year Apprentice Electrician with licensing in Utah. Licensing in ID and WY may be needed. Past experience with commercial-scale electrical work highly desirable. Past experience or training with solar is valuable but not essential. We seek a team member ready to grow into an evolving field, with strong communication and problem-solving skills. Applicant to be physically fit, able to work on roofs and lift equipment up to 75 pounds.

Will work as a team member on a crew of two to four Installers and Electricians. Responsibilities will include solar array layout and installation, roof attachment and equipment loading and transport. This position requires travel to remote job sites and may require 3-4 nights a week away from home.

Position responsibilities:

  • Participate as a safe and efficient member of an installation team

  • Understand and follow safety procedures and regulations at all project sites
  • Work courteously with customers at the time of installation
