Residential Solar Designer

Position Title: Residential Solar Designer

Base Location: Salt Lake City, UT

Classification: Full Time

Compensation Range: $19 to $22 per hour DOE

Summary of Position:

The Residential Solar Designer develops plan sets for the permitting and construction of residential photovoltaic systems and provides technical support to the Sales, Installation, and Procurement Teams.


Solar power system design – 85%

Technical support for sales, installation and procurement – 10%

Training and professional development – 5%

Duties Expanded:

Design – 85%

Generate residential plan sets

- Ensure Code compliance

- Confirm interconnections

- Calculate conductor and conduit sizing

- Calculate OCPD ratings

- Generate plaque schedule

Specify array mounting details

Facilitate outsourced residential plan sets as needed

Assist with commercial plan sets as needed

Technical Support – 10%

- Provide support to Sales, Installation and Procurement Teams

Training – 5%

- Maintain knowledge of current Code requirements and industry best practices

- Stay current with evolving technologies


- Strong communication skills

- Attention to detail

- Solution oriented

- Ability to multi-task

- Hands on PV installation experience preferred

- PV System design experience preferred

- Strong competency with spreadsheets and AutoCAD desired


- Valid Driver’s License

- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree

- NABCEP Associate Credential or equivalent knowledge of electrical principals, photovoltaic systems and NEC requirements

Travel and Work schedule:

Individuals work with a flexible schedule, coordinated with other team members. Occasional travel including out-of-state and overnight will be needed for training, team member meetings and to support Creative Energies team operations.
