March is B Corp Month - Let's Go Behind the B

What Does It Mean to be a B Corp?

Certified B Corporations (B Corps) are for-profit companies that use the power of business to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy. To become a B Corp, companies go through a rigorous application process and B Impact Assessment to determine if they meet the minimum requirements.

The B Impact Assessment is used to help companies evaluate their impact on various stakeholders including their employees, customers, community, and the environment. Each portion of the assessment presents a set of questions with varying point values which when combined, determines a company's overall B Score.

For Creative Energies, B Corp certification was the natural next step in our progress as a company focused on leading communities into a clean energy future. We believe business should be used as a force for good and not singularly focused on just profit.

B Impact Areas for Assessment:

  • Customers
  • Environment
  • Community
  • Workers
  • Governance

Creative Energies' Commitment to Progress

Our journey as a B Corp started back in 2017 when we went through the B Impact Assessment and received a score of 84.2. Excited to be joining the global B Corp network of companies, we knew our work didn't stop there. In 2020 we went through the re-certification process and improved our score to 89.7. Our sights are set on 2023, when we will go through the re-certification process with the intention of improving our score yet again.

Some of the important progress we've been making as a company includes improving team member benefits, establishing a JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion) Team, establishing a Green Team that monitors our environmental impacts, and finding opportunities to give back to the communities we operate within.
