Thielking Residential Solar Project

Salt Lake City, UT

The Challenge:

Paul & Yvonne wanted to reduce their carbon footprint as well as their monthly utility expenses. They live in a 100-year-old home that has a rooftop consisting of many different angled surfaces, none of which were large enough to accommodate a solar array. They did, however, have a large garage with a good-sized west-facing rooftop at a 30-degree angle. The next hurdle was the shading on the rooftop. Many historic neighborhoods are filled with beautiful mature shade trees.

The Creative Energies Solution:

We installed a 3.06 kW solar energy system on a rooftop surface that receives a fair amount of sun from mid-morning until late afternoon with little shading to maximize the system's solar exposure. To further mitigate any potential shading issues, Enphase microinverters were utilized to optimize the production of each panel. Enphase Enlighten monitoring was incorporated into the system for real-time monitoring of solar production for each panel.

The System:

  • 3.06 kW residential grid tied PV with REC 255W modules
  • Enphase M215 microinverters with Envoy online monitoring
